THRISSUR: At the Kshetra Samrakshana Sammelanam held on Saturday, the Kshetra Vimochana Samara Samiti was formed to fight against the Devaswom Ordinance and the proposal by the State Government to constitute Malabar Devaswom Board.

Delivering the keynote address at the meet, Hindu Aikya Vedi general secretary Kummanam Rajasekharan said that through the Ordinance, the government has already taken over the temples and their properties in Travancore-Cochin area. With the proposed formation of the Malabar Devaswom Board, the temples and their properties in Malabar area will also be taken over by the government.

He said that the Hindus would fight against this backdoor takeover of temples by the government.

He said that as part of the agitation, statewide conventions, dharnas and awareness programmes will be organised.

A samiti chaired by K K Balaram has been constituted at the meeting to formulate a parallel Devaswom law.

Rajasekharan said the Supreme Court judgment has created uncertainty about the conduct of festivals and celebrations in Kerala. Under the present situation very important celebrations like Thrissur and Arattupuzha poorams and Nemmara Vallangi Vela cannot be held.
