Operation JCB – Temple idol and mandapam brought down

Harippad: Hurting the feelings of lakhs of Hindu devotees, the Mandapam and the Sree Muruga idol before the Harippad Subramanya Swami Temple was removed by JCB as per instructions from Travancore Devaswom Board on March 30^th .

The “Kanikka mandapam” got damaged few days ago being hit by a private bus. The idol and vanchi inside the mandapam was not damaged by the accident. The Devaswom administrative officer used this as an excuse to initiate the demolition of the whole mandapam.

The idol being worshipped by all devotees has a long tradition and is about 2 feet tall. Round the clock devotees who pass before the temple, offer camphor and other pooja items to Lord Muruga along with kanikka in this mandapam.

The worst thing is that, authorities who are supposed to be god fearing didn’t take the effort to remove the idol with due respect before starting their “JCB show”. But they were prompt to remove all the money in the kanikka vanchi in advance.The idol got crushed by JCB.

It was about 25 yrs ago when G.P Mangalathumadam was the TDB president this kanikkamandapam was constructed. The scripture mentioning the inaugural details also got damaged in this operation. Around 2 years back in another incident, around 7 Kambavilaku used in the temple for pooja and festivals were stolen by the TDB officials. After a year long struggle by devotees, TDB reinstalled  those vilakku.
