T’PURAM: In a major twist to the controversial Sister Abhaya murder case, this website’s newspaper has obtained solid evidence suggesting that the chemical examination report of the vaginal swab and vaginal smear of Sister Abhaya had been tampered with.

The manuscript of the report from the Chemical Examination Laboratory, a copy of which is in the possession of this website’s newspaper, clearly indicated the presence of semen in the vagina of Sister Abhaya pointing to the fact that Abhaya was raped prior to her death.

There were over-writings at four places using whitener and a different ink and prefixing of ‘‘not’’ to the word ‘‘detected,’’ in a clear bid to contradict the result.

The body of Sister Abhaya, 21, was found in the well at the Pius Tenth Convent, Kottayam, on March 27, 1992.

The CBI, which is presently reinvestigating the case, could not find any lead to the ‘‘homicide’’ that was dismissed as a suicide by the local police.

The examination of the semen and spermatozoa at the vaginal swab and smear on April 10, 1992, showed positive result for acid phosphatase test, florence test and berberco’s test and negative result for microscopic examination of spermatozoa. But the result of florence and berberco’s tests were corrected using whitener and rewritten as negative.

The result of acid phosphatase test has been retained as positive as it is only a preliminary examination. The result of pricipitin test for human semen had also been tampered with by rewriting as ‘‘No semen.’’

The report below the test result says ‘‘Semen was not detected in the vaginal swab and smear under item no (4).’’ The word ‘‘not’’ was inserted in the sentence using different ink.

A detailed report at the end of the form ruling out the presence of sperm also adds to the doubt as usually such an explanation wouldn’t be included in the chemical examination report.

The local police, Crime Branch and the CBI, which had investigated the case didn’t have any access to the original manuscript, which is safely kept at the laboratory.

Their inquiry was based on a printed report of the same, forwarded by the Chemical Examiners’ laboratory, which didn’t leave any loopholes.
