Arrest of panchayat member BJP hartal in Olavanna

KOZHIKODE: The BJP on Wednesday observed a hartal in Olavanna panchayat in protest against the arrest of its panchayat member, who was allegedly involved in an attack on the KSEB office.

Shops and establishments at Olavanna, Mathara, Kunnathupalam and Pantheerankavu remained closed. Bus service to interiors came to a standstill. However, traffic along NH-17 was not disrupted.

Panchayat member and local BJP leader K N Girishan was arrested in connection with the attack on the KSEB office. Recurring incidents of power failure were reported from the region on the day of Vishu. Local people had stormed the KSEB office and had destroyed furniture.
