KOLLAM: The Kerala Dalit Federation (KDF) has said that the CPM leaders, including Pinarayi Vijayan and M A Baby, were engaged in an ‘eye wash’ on the minority status issue.

In a statement , KDF state president P Ramabhadran said that the religious minorities have got the freedom to run their institutions as they like under the 93rd Amendment of the Constitution which was passed in Parliament with the support of the CPM also. After supporting the Amendment, it was not right for the CPM to put all the blame on the Central Government or the Minorities Commission.

The LDF had brought the self-financing law, which limited the freedom of religious minorities, by over-looking the 93rd Amendment and even a lay man was aware of the fact that a law which went against the Constitutional provisions would be nullified. The Pushpagiri management got the minority status under the 93rd Amendment. While Education Minister Baby was thinking of going for an appeal against the decision, CPM secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had called for Central intervention. The need of the hour was new legislation after doing away with the 93rd Amendment.
