Thiruvananthapuram: The Kendriya Sangeet Natak Akademi will open a centre for promotion of research and studies on Kerala’s classical Sanskrit theatre Koodiyattam here on May 27. This would be the third Alternate Centre of the Akademi for Indian classical performance traditions after the Kathak centre in Delhi and Manipuri centre in Manipur, according to its vice-chairman and theatre personality Kavalam Narayana Panicker. Akademi chairman RN Mirdha would attend the inaugural function. A meeting of the Akademi’s executive would also be held the same day here. Besides promoting research and studies on Koodiyattam, the centre would have a collection of a wide range of archival material and other documents, including records of performances, Panicker said here.
