ABVP national Seminar

KOCHI : Justice Rama Joice, the former Chief Justice of Punjab& Haryana High Court and former Governor of Jharkhand and Bihar, addressing ABVP National Seminar in Kochi said that it is most unfortunate that even after the completion of more than 5 decades since the inception of nation’s Constitution we still talk about more rights than the equality the Constitution has provided for. The twenty ninth Clause of the Constitution provides for rights confined to the Indian citizens. But, the Constitution does no say anything about citizenship when it deliberates the rights as per Clause 80.

The topic was the Minorities Rights in Education Field.

The discussion on minorities status not only wasted the precious time of the judiciary but also proved detrimental to the unity and integrity of the nation. If any law is supposed to be of national interests it should be equally applicable both to minorities institutions and majority institutions. The 30^th Clause is only a protection, not a right.

Deliverying the inaugural speech, Dr. Subramaniam Swamy said that even our Constitution does not provide for any definition for the term, minority. Muslim-Christian communities who ruled the country for thousand years can never claim the minority status. Both the communities have never suffered from the religious oppression in India.  What Muslims need is education, not special status in the Constitution. Parsis, another  minority community India  have never demanded special rights.

Dr. V.S. Acharya, the Medical Education Minister of Karnataka, in his presidential address, said that an integral union law is necessary to control the admission and fees structure in the professional college. He also called for  a consensus between the management and the govt. for the earliest solution of the impasse.

BMS All India Vice Prez Adv. Saji Narayanan and Prof. T. Devidas of National Law School, Bangalore, spoke in the discussion on Supreme Court judgments. Saji Narayanan demanded for a Constitutional Assembly for interpreting the Constitution for the laymen.

Second Day of the Seminar

Addressing the Seminar on Quality and Equality, Justice K.T. Thomas said that special rights should be given only those Daliths who remain socially and educationally backward. The cry for special rights as per the religious faith should be stopped for ever. Management alone is responsible for the problems concerning minorities rights existing in the field of professional education field. If management can recognize SSLC and Plus Two examinations conducted by the govt. why can’t they recognize the entrance examinations conducted by the same govt ? How can the Leftists who supported the formation of Minorities Education Commission through the 93^rd Constitutional Amendment oppose the activities of the same Commission ? The  93^rd Amendment which denies the right of the backwards communities of the right to admission itself is against the spirits of the 46^th Clause of the Constitution.  Mangements, especially, those of religious minorities, should work for the social development instead of trying to bypass the social control.

ABVP All India Org. Secy.B. Surendran said that govt. should never step back from the responsibilities of higher education. Grey areas as to who is the minority, etc, should be clarified.  ABVP State Vice President  Dr. K.P. Nandakumar presided.

Former ABVP All India President P.V. Krishna Bhatt delivered the key note address during the  valedictory function. Bar Council of India Chairman Adv. S. Gopakumaran Nair, RSS Pranth Karyavah A.R. Mohan and ABVP Nat’l Executive Member M. Jayakumar spoke on the occasion. ABV State Prez Adv. S. Manu welcomed and State Secy V.P. Rajeev proposed vote of thanks.

Ealier addressing the seminar, P. Parameshwarji said that separatism is behind the minoritysm.
