VS Achuthanandan, Pinarayi suspended from politburo
New Delhi: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan have been suspended from the politburo for making open criticisms violating the norms of the party.
Addressing reporters after the two-day politburo meet, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat today said that the politburo has adopted a resolution on the Kerala issue but they will continue with other positions. The central committee will take up the matter later on the period of their suspension and further actions at the meetings to be held from June 24.
Karat said the two leaders open statements are unacceptable to the party but they will continue with all other responsibilities of the party.
It has been stated that this might be the first time, two senior leaders airing their differences openly and this has irritated the central leadership. Many warnings have been given by the politburo earlier, but it was in vain.
