KOZHIKODE: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has demanded an inquiry by the Enforcement into the Rs 1-crore scam involving ‘Desabhimani’ DGM Venugopal.

‘‘The Home Minister has said that his department would register a case and investigate. If he is sincere, he should initiate an investigation by the Enforcement as this is an economic crime,’’ BJYM state president K Surendran told reporters here on Wednesday.

On the CPM state committee’s decision to return the Rs 2 crore which ‘Desabhimani’ had received from ‘lottery king’ Santiago Martin, he asked whether the party was ready to return crores of rupees it received from the ‘international criminal’.

‘‘Martin gave Rs 1 crore to the Kannur-based lottery cooperative society, which is going to be inaugurated on July 8.’’

The society, with a DYFI leader as its president, has already received a deposit of more than Rs 5 crore, and now Martin is directing the wholesale dealers to contact the society, he said. ‘‘The party has also received an equal amount for the special fund for the families of martyrs for which a total of Rs 7.5 crore has already been raised.’’

Surendran said the Yuva Morcha would organise a rally at Kollam on August 9, against the ‘Marxist-mafia nexus’.

BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravishankar Prasad will inaugurate the rally, he said.
