Cong, CPI-M fronts must stop vote bank politics: BJP
KOCHI: Reacting to the ‘ultimatum’ served by a section of the Christian leadership on the LDF government’s educational polices, the BJP said the ‘alarming’ situation arose due to the minority appeasement policies ‘being pursued’ by both fronts led by the Congress and CPI-M.
The Congress and CPI-M should now regret their policy of pursuing the ‘vote-bank’ politics and refrain from committing their mistakes, BJP Kerala unit president P K Krishnadas told reporters here.
The objections raised by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and the ruling CPI-M was inadequate to ward of the threat by the minority communities, worried over their fundamental rights being taken away, he said.
Alleging that forming the national minority commission was part of pursuing the vote bank politics, Krishnadas said the special status accorded to educational institutions run by minorities would ‘subvert’ the quota provided to wards from the SC/ST, OBC and other weaker sections as majority of such institutions are run by the minorities.
The situation would deprive many a meritorious student from the majority Hindu community a chance to pursue higher education courses while the minority educational institutions would ‘reap’ money by ‘misusing’ the special status, the BJP leader charged.
The emerging scenario whereby students from majority community are deprived of equal opportunity to pursue higher education would scuttle social justice and the situation would not help the state in any manner, he warned adding that his party would launch intensified agitation and seek support of all like-minded organisations to highlight the issue.
