Hawala money: BJP demands CBI inquiry
KOZHIKODE: Bharathiya Janatha Party on Wednesday demanded CBI inquiry into the hawala money dealings, citing a reason that state police under the LDF Government is not sufficient to break the network of hawala, which involves police officers and political leaders.
Addressing a media conference in Kozhikode, BJP state president P K Krishnadas said that the state committee meeting will be convened on August 10 and 11, which will finalise the agitation against government.
The party will hold mass dharna in all the districts on August 14.
He alleged that the successive governments had played a key role in laying a strong ground for the hawala dealers to operate in the state.
‘‘BJP has brought the issue into the notice of both the UDF and the LDF Government after Marad killings. Marad Commission had taken the point seriously, but the then UDF Government neglected it,’’ he charged.
Krishnadas said that the state police had commenced an inquiry into the Rs-770 crore hawala deal nearly 5 years ago.
‘‘But, as per our knowledge goes, the state police had not made a significant break through in the case, he said adding that only CBI is the reliable agency available in the country.
The government should issue a white paper regarding hawala dealings and should announce the name of the police officers and leaders of political parties, who have links with hawala dealers.
The BJP would hand over the details they have got to the investigation agency, he added.
