‘Nefarious activities gaining ground in coastal Kerala’

Alarm bells have started ringing after the report submitted by the Central Intelligence Agencies and the Military Intelligence to the Central Home Ministry warning of a possible threat to coastal Malabar which is slowly turning out to be a major smuggling hub.

Kerala has become a major hub for foreign agencies due to the State’s weak law and order system followed by the failure of the top brass of the police department to impart proper coordination between themselves.

There are already reports of a weakened DGP who has no power whatsoever and that the routine charge has been given to a relatively junior officer who is in the good books of the CPI(M).

The intelligence agencies have warned that the recent outburst of certain organisations and individuals like Abdul Nasser Madani and the bail granted to the Marad accused is a political move to gain mileage in the present political situation in the district .

Madani’s new moves are beeing watched closely by the Intelligence agencies and there are also strong reports from the ground that he is planning to regroup himself with the possibility of an alliance with other Muslim organisations including the NDF which is accused of sabotaging peace in the Marad area.

The Madani factor is closely monitored by the intelligence agencies; given the fact that he is deliberately attacking the Muslim League in the whole of Malabar and this therefore is seen as a potential move to weaken the moderate Muslim organisation and to gain ground and acceptance among the Malabar Muslims who are more educated and refined.

The Military Intelligence has warned the department of the presence of smuggling of certain items through the coastal areas of Malabar with the support in the coastal towns across Malabar and the agency have reported that some contraband items including fire-arms could be smuggled into the State and is further transported to other parts of the country. The presence of a weak police force and a long coastal line is seen as the major reason why smuggling is mushrooming in the area.

The Central Intelligence have also warned that that there was a growing increase of counterfeit currency in Malabar area and that there was a concerted effort on the part of certain forces to increase the volume of counterfeit money being pumped into the State.

Sources in the Intelligence told The Pioneer that these currencies were planted into the country by the Inter-Service Intelligence of Pakistan in a bid to disrupt the economy of the country. The DRI is also on a hot pursuit of certain persons from Malabar who are supposed to be having good underground contacts with the suppliers of the counterfeit currency. It is learnt that the coastal belt is used for smuggling of these currencies. Meanwhile, the intelligence agencies have posted plain clothes men from the State Police in different coastal towns to get information regarding this money. Real estate is the major area where this money is being pumped in as there is a tendency among the sellers to accept the money in black.

Sources in DRI told The Pioneer that this was one area through which money was likely to be pumped into the State.

There are also information that the money is being smuggled in through sea and then transferred to other parts of the country using the services of trucks and other cargo movers.

It is learnt that there are grandiose plans for organisations which were bent on increasing the division among the people in the country and that the agencies were closely monitoring certain individuals and organisations regarding the same.
