IB warns State of attacks, blasts

The intelligence agencies have given tips to the State Government on the possibilities of certain attacks in the State. This was followed by the blasts in the Rajadhani Express from Guwahati to Delhi in which several people lost their lives.

The intelligence has told the State police to be on their toes and warned them of the possibilities of the regrouping of certain organisations and individuals under the camouflage of human rights activism.

Sources in the State Police told The Pioneer that this was a reason to worry and with continuous phone calls coming to the police and the collector in Kozhikode, the intelligence has not taken the threat lightly.

The State police has already taken certain steps on the warning with the police already having a wind of this and some groups and individuals are under the scanner in the city.

A senior police officer told The Pioneer, “Even before we got the IB tips, we had some grassroot information on the movement of certain individuals and groups and the police have already got the necessary tips. We are monitoring the situation closely”.

It is learnt that the State police has already detained some persons in connection with the threats, but police officers dismissed this and said that no one had been detained.

With the intelligence already warning on the presence of the LTTE movement in the Malabar coast, this threat could be taken seriously and the need is to act in a positive manner and not dismiss this as a mere threat.

Of late, Kerala has been a favourite shelter for certain individuals and groups who are close to some fundamentalist outfits, and this shelter, according to a senior officer with the Indian Military Intelligence is a ploy of the terror and fundamentalist groups to find safe hideouts and attack according to their whims and fancy.

This indicates that the terror groups, most of whom having ground level support in the State, is on a strategy to have a cosy time in such hideouts, and on finding another safer place or State, carry out attacks on these places.

With the army and the intelligence continuously extending warnings to the State on the movement of terror outfits along the Malabar coast and even the south Indian States also in the grip of the terror actions following the Maoist movement, it seems that these groups have a feeling that these hideouts could not be safer any longer. This shows that there could be possibilities of a surprise attack in the State, as warned by the central intelligence agencies.

There were also reports that a former top leader of the erstwhile Naxal movement in the State had recently held some secret meetings in Andhra Pradesh with some of his earlier contacts who were still active in Maoist movements and this is considered as a serious development by the central intelligence agencies.

Another fact is the information from the locals of Wyanad on the presence of a new person in the area who is given lots of respect by the cadres and the sympathisers alike.

This person, according to Intelligence report, is a top operative of the Maoist movement and this has considerably worried the state police.
