The BJP State president PK Krishnadas and the State general secretary AN Radhakrishnan were among the hundreds of party workers arrested following the jail fill agitation conducted by the party. The BJP has called upon the agitation in protest to the failure of the Government to check the hike in prices of essential commodities including rice and other commodities for consumption.

The BJP is also protesting against the inhuman treatment meted out to the Sabarimala pilgrims by the Travancore Dewaswom Board and the State Government. The BJP leaders conducted marched from Gandhi park to Thiruvananthapuram sub-jail and the leaders and the workers were arrested by the Police.

With the left parties and the Congress supporting and propping up the UPA Government at the Centre, both the Left parties and the opposition Congress were not in the forefront in the agitation against the price hike in the State, which has put the ordinary people in great difficulties during the festival seasons of Christmas and Bakrid.
