Cherthala: In a strongly worded statement, SNDP general secretary Shri Vellapally Nateshan condemened the move of the Marxist led government to acquire Sree Padmanabha swami temple and its associated temple properties from the trust currently controlled and supervised by the Royal family of Travancore.

He urged government to refrain itself from being part of such ventures which will hurt the sentiments of majority of Hindus .The Government which controls Devaswom board is not in a position to even supervise the temples which are already under its control and do the needful for the well being of the devotees and temple staff. Then why to dream about capturing more Temples?

He also mentioned that while during British rule, when the Devaswom board was formed for temple welfare and around 300 temples were brought under its control, Sree Padmanabha Swami temple was excluded from the acquisition as mark of respect to the royal family. The British people had the gratitude and dignity to respect the sentiments of Royal family who had surrendered their kingdom and dynasty to the holy feets of Sree Padmanabha Swami. Vellapally also told that even after the famous temple entry proclamation, Maharaja himself had the control and ownership on the day to day affairs of the temple.

He suspected dirty political interests as well as hidden agenda by certain section of Kerala who’s main interest is in the crores worth valuables and temple properties. He asked Government not to join with vested interests ,instead take strong action against people who are trying to make such moves and protect this famous temple which is a honour of Hindu soceity. He also condemned moves by certain people who tried to forcibly occupy buildings and land which are currently under temple trust.
