BJP president Rajnath Singh has said that the CPI(M) is being intolerant towards believers and that the party is trying to destroy the culture of the country.

Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, Rajnath Singh said that the politics of the CPI(M) was of destruction of all cultural symbols. He added that this had to be opposed at any cost.

The BJP national president, who arrived in Kerala to participate in the party’s State committee and council meets on Saturday and Sunday, said that the party was for the formation of a third front in the State. He pointed out that the people of the State were yearning for a change. He also said that the State had been witnessing rotten regimes during the tenures of both the LDF and the UDF and that it was high time the people in the State had a rethink. The BJP leader also said that the CPI(M), which was supporting the UPA Government at the Centre, was behaving as if it had no responsibility and this was a classic case of duplicity.

The BJP leadership has been discussing the possibilities of a third front for the past several years but with the politics of the State revolving around the two fronts, the LDF and the UDF, the party has not been able to make a breakthrough. The experiment it practised with the Kerala Congress faction did not fructify beyond a point.

Earlier in the day, inaugurating the State committee meeting of the party, BJP national secretary Balbir K Punj said that the fight in the State was between the believers and the atheists. He said the BJP was on the side of the believers in this fight.

The BJP leader was referring to the antagonistic stand taken by the CPI(M) towards the Church and the religious leaders of the State. Punj said that the arrogance shown by the CPI(M) towards the believers should be opposed showing this arrogance on the basis of the administrative powers it enjoyed.

The BJP leader was particularly critical of the stand taken by the CPI(M) towards the educational institutions in the aided sector. He said that the CPI(M) as a political party was trying to disrupt the harmony prevalent in the State through various actions.

The BJP meet also decided to enter into the Adivasi, Dalit areas and to form a third front to outsmart the political combinations which prevalent in the State.

The BJP, which has a young leadership in the State, is trying to capitalise on the issues of the youth and the downtrodden and is planning to become a credible alternative to the present rulers.
