Another First from Kanchi

For a generation of Hindu students brought up on a staple diet of “Eashwar Allah Tero Naam”, “Ahimsa Paramo Dharmaha”, “All religions lead to the same God/goal” etc., it did not matter if one prayed to Eashwar or Allah or Jesus, as long as it alleviated their fear of their Board Examinations.

The Missionaries realized this potential target audience. And for quite some years, arranged “All Prayer meetings” – a call to all the students to come and participate in the prayer by a cunning pastor who would naturally pray to Jesus to alleviate the fears in the minds of the innocent students and to bring success on to them. These “All Prayer Meetings” were not All Religious Prayer Meetings. It was Jesus, all the way.

The Christian college grounds in Chennai became busy with such meetings. Where the Hindu children and the parents tread along to listen to the pastor or brother’s well-rehearsed hash.

A few of us took this issue to many of our Swamijis. Praying Them that They should organize a Havan or a Puja to Saraswati or Hayagreeva. Offer sacred threads as Raksha to the children. Take their Hall tickets for prayers into the Sanctorum. Speak to them the most encouraging words and alleviate their unfounded fears.

Last year, the Madhava Perumal Koil at Mylapore took up this project. I was delighted to be present there and to witness the frenzy of devotion amongst the 10th and the 12th graders, their parents and guardians in tow. Special Havan was made. Rakshas sanctified in the Garbha Griha were offered dutifully to each child. This provided the RIGHT place to visit for the Hindu children. And prevented them from being lured to listening to false promises of the christists. More importantly, this encouraged our children to visit our Mandirs.

A day before the actual event, the Kanchi Acharya showed us the pens he would sanctify and gift to school children.

Two days ago, The Kanchi Acharya initiated the puja for the children of Chennai, this year. He performed traditional pujas for their success and offered a pen to each student. The event took place for two days in Chennai. One in Perambur and the other at Tambaram, both outskirts of Chennai. Over 5000 children lined up to receive their blessings and the Pen at each venue.

Tomorrow, He will be visiting Chennai again. This time to Adambakkam. Over 2000 children are expected to participate and receive His bountiful Blessings and a pen.

I pray to All our Acharyas, Swamijis and Sadhu Sant that they should initiate Prayer programs in their respective region. So the Hindu children are shown the correct way to pray. And not lured by false promises of the Missionaries.
