Krishnadas lashes out at Govt for Sabarimala affidavit

BJP State president PK Krishnadas has lashed out at the State Government for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court on the sensitive issue of the entry of woman devotees to Sabarimala shrine. The State Government has in its affidavit said that the women in puberty age groups should be allowed darshan at Sabarimala Temple.

The temple does not allow women in the puberty age to enter the hill shrine and the affidavit of the Government is seen by many as a blatant violation and challenge to Hindu religious beliefs and customs.

The BJP leader said the Government, which had conducted several rounds of consultations with Muslim organisations over the change of time in school curriculum, has not done any consultation with Hindu religious leaders and other scholars on the issue before filing such an affidavit.

Krishnadas said the Government had no right to file such an affidavit on a matter concerning the belief of crores of devotees of Lord Ayyappa.

The BJP leader also said that each temple had its own customs and dictates, which had certain reasons behind it.

The BJP leader said a Government, which did not believe in the temple customs and the Hindu religious beliefs, should not have taken such a decision before conducting any deliberations with the Hindu religious leaders and other political parties, as this was an issue which is concerning the people of the State.

He said the party would conduct meetings with like-minded organisations and social organisations on the issue. He also warned that strong protests would be held across the State against the Government’s decision to challenge Hindu religious beliefs and customs.

The BJP leader also said that the Government was taking the Hindu community for a ride and was making a mockery of even their religious practices and customs.

The LDF Government had no right to meddle in the religious affairs of the Hindus, he added. Alleging that the Government has certain hidden agendas he said that it was interfering into the religious affairs without knowing anything about the beliefs practiced by the people.

Meanwhile, Minister for Dewaswoms G Sudhakaran said that the Government opined that wherever men were allowed entry women would also be allowed and thus it filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court.

He expressed his firm belief in the entry of women to the hill shrine and said that it would happen someday if not in the near future.

The Minister was speaking to mediapersons while attending a public function of Housing Board on Thursday.
