PALAKKAD: The controversial Palakkad based Soorya group of companies and its Chairman VM Radhakrishnan has done it again. The group has released a colour advertisement in the party organ, Desabhimani on Monday extending greetings to the State conference of the CPM which is underway in Kottayam.
It may be recalled that the Chairman of the Soorya group of companies ,VM Radhakrishnan was accused by Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan of conducting meetings during the last assembly elections to plot his defeat from Malampuzha.
The carrying of an advertisement of the Soorya group in Desabhimani had generated a lot of heat during the last Malappuram State conference with the VS faction delegates taking umbrage to the fact that tainted businessmen were gaining access to the party. The Pinarayi faction had feigned ignorance and stated that it was without their knowledge that the ad crept into the paper.
Subsequently the DYFI , youth wing of the CPM had conducted a press conference accusing the businessman of interfering in the day to day affairs of Malabar Cements Limited. They had also released the detailed bill of the official telephone of the then Managing director of MCL who had made a large number of calls to the telephone numbers of the businessman.
On the day of the swearing in ceremony of the Achuthanandan led LDF Government , an ad was released in the front page of Desabhimani extending greetings to the new Ministry and the Government.
The business group then repeated an ad in the Desabhimani during the State conference of the CITU held at Palakkad. The CITU bosses MM Lawrence and KN Ravindranath had a difficult time parrying questions from the media on the role of the businessman in the affairs of the public sector Malabar Cements Limited and his relation with the party.
The repeated carrying of the ad of the controversial businessman by the party organ for the Kottayam conference bypassing the protests of the VS faction is also considered a subtle message to the octogenarian Chief Minister that it will be the party which will decide matters whether he likes it or not.
