Prohibitory orders after clashes in Thalassery
Kannur District Collector Ishitha Roy on Wednesday issued prohibitory orders in Thalassery, Dharamadam, Pannor and Kuthuparamba areas following widespread attacks and killings in the area.
Two RSS workers, Nikhil, a lorry driver in Thalassery and Santhosh in Vattipuram in Kuthuparamba were killed by CPI(M) workers. A CPI(M) worker Ranjan who is an autorikshaw driver was also killed by RSS workers.
State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that four companies of police under the leadership of ADGP Jangpangi had already been deployed in Thalassery. The Minister further said that this contingent comprises of officers in the rank of DySps and Circle Inspectors and Sub Inspectors who had earlier worked in the area .
The latest problem began when RSS local leader MP Sumesh was attacked by a group of persons at the new bus stand premises in Thalassery. Sumesh lost his left palm and has hack wounds on his head and face. He is very critical and the doctors attending him are tight lipped about his present condition.
Immediately after hearing about the attack on Sumesh there was a retaliation and a CPI (M) cadre and an autorikshaw driver, Ranjit was attacked by suspected RSS activists .He was rushed to the co-operative hospital in Thalassery where he breathed his last.
After this incident Nikhil, a lorry driver and an active RSS worker was killed by a group of CPI (M) cadre in Vadakkumpad , a CPI (M) bastion near Thalassery town.
An RSS worker Santhosh was killed by suspected CPI (M) cadre at Vattiparam near Kuthuparamba.
Three more RSS workers who were attacked by CPI(M) cadre were admitted to the Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode in a critical condition
The situation in Thalassery and surrounding areas was tense and people have already downed the shutters of their shops as they expect more violent incidents.
