Kodiyeri’s failure in handling police leads to political killings in Thalassery

The State Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan should be ashamed of himself following the violent political killings which is taking shape in his constituency.

After he assumed office as the State Home Minister The Pioneer had reported that political violence will escalate in the district and especially in Thalassery area after his ascending the throne of the Home Minister.

Kodiyeri who is considered by his political rivals as one of the main architects of turning Thalassery into a violent political area is never expected to provide justice to his political rivals.

Even the NDF had accused the Minister of playing hide and seek after the cold-blooded assassination of one of its cadre, Faisal during the holy Ramzan month in the Minister’s village. The Minister had given orders to take case against the assailants only after a year after the NDF went in relentless struggle against him.

The RSS, the BJP and even the Congressmen of the area know that there would not be any justice on the part of the police as long as a person like Kodiyeri Balakirshan is at the helm of the Home Affairs.

There were several political killings in Thalassery and adjoining areas for the past some months and three CPI(M) men had lost their lives. The Minister was accused of not taking the issue seriously. However with the cold-blooded attack on the RSS leader MP Sumesh, who is battling for his life at Kozhikode Medical College hospital, it was clear for the people of Thalassery as to why the Minister was publicly showing restrain.

It may be recalled that Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s father in law, the late MLA of Thalassery MV Rajagopalan Master was the main architect behind the political killings of Thalassery. He was later removed from all the key party posts and died a miserable death. Even the CPI(M) people were not at his side during his death.

Kodiyeri is a political leader who had grown in stature in this background and had risen to the present position, thanks to the shoulders of the late MLA.

With the escalation of violence in the Thalassery area and the Minister who is an MLA of Thalassery making tall talks from Thiruvananthapuram, local people are finding his attitude hard to digest.

The CPI(M) district secretary P Sasi had while addressing mediapersons during the inauguration of the reception committee office for the party district conference said that the party cadre should show restrain till the party conferences are over.

The CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan who while addressing a massive public meeting had said that the CPI(M) is a political party which gives tit for tat and that there will be reply with compound interest. Local people of the town could only understand the gravity of his speech after the cold-blooded attacks and murders which the town is witnessing.

With the murders and political attacks taking place from all sides of Thalassery town and the adjoining constituency, it is clear that this is a well chalked-out gameplan and the party is executing this to its finesse with the help of the killer squads which it is employing.

It may be recalled that it was the LDF Government that had witnessed such cold blooded murders (during the 1980,87,96) in Thalassery and adjoining areas.

Two senior leaders of the BJP, Panniyannor Chandran and KT Jayakrishnan were murdered by the CPI(M) men during the LDF rule. Questions are being raised in political circles as to why these heroes who unleash cruelity at the highest orders are acting like tamed cats during the UDF regime.

The answer is the police action and if the men in Khaki takes tough measures, it will definitely put an end to this blood thirsty war and the CPI(M) being the largest political party in the district has to take the initiative.
