KOTTAYAM: The Hindu Leaders’ meet held as part of the third state conference of the Hindu Aikya Vedi here on Saturday has expressed fear that the recommendations of the Sachar and Paloli committees to award special benefits and reservation for Muslims on each and every sphere of their activity will eventually become guidelines for partition itself.

Terming the recommendations as blatant moves against social justice and which derails the basic principles of reservation in Constitutional terms, and as such, totally unrealistic, the meet called upon the State Government not to move ahead for implementation of the Sachar panel recommendations and also reject the Paloli committee’s recommendations.

Demanding a comprehensive law and a unified Devaswom Board in the state, the meet underscored the need for a depoliticised Malabar Devaswom Board, if at all the government goes ahead with a separate entity for the administration of temples in the Northern region.

Matters have gone to the extent of even distorting the revered memory of Poonthanam, at the instance of the ruling dispensation, the meet noted.

The meet demanded a piece of legislation to ban conversion, dropping of moves to grant reservation benefits to converted Christians in the country, implementation of the Marad Judicial Commission report and measures to check the increasing extremist activities of Muslim outfits in the state.

The conference sought immediate measures to form a Sabarimala Development Authority to ensure the wholesome growth of the famous hill shrine and protect the interests of teaming millions of pilgrims.
