Property of five witnesses in the Chekannur Moulavi murder case will be confiscated, directed a CBI special court. The five witnesses who are residing abroad were sent summons by the court but they didn’t respond. Several arrest warrants were also issued against them but to no use.

The CBI has also requested for the help of the Interpol in getting them out of their countries of hideouts to India. Following failure of all the measures, the CBI special court has ordered to confiscate the property of all the five witnesses.

Chekannur Moulvi, who is considered as a reformist in the Islamic community in the State, was kidnapped from his house. He was preaching several revolutionary changes in the Islamic way of worship and had even called upon the believers to reduce the number of Namaz .

Also he was hard hitting on the role played by the traditional Sunni Moulavi’s. This has infuriated the hardliners in the community and after several years of disappearance, the CBI had to acknowledge that the Moulavi was infact murdered. But his remains could not be traced even after several attempts at the Chungakunnu in Malappuram district where the accused has told the police officers of having dumped his body after murdering him.

A noted Sunni leader in the State is accused of having master minded the killing of Chekannur Moulavi. There were allegations that a Sunni organisation mooting terror was used for this operation.
