Human Rights Commission Serves Notice To Women’s Commission

The notice is based on a complaint that Women’s Commission had violated the human rights of the nun community by making defamatory and baseless statements.The complaint filed by the Council of Catholic Women of India, State President ,Jayn Ansin Francis also accuses the commission of interfering with the spiritual matters of a community without undertaking any detailed study.

The Kerala State Womens Commission had made a recommentation ,earlier this week,to the goverment to make laws to prevent girls below the age of 18 from joining convents to become nuns.This has invited widespread criticism from the church and christian organisations.The state Congress Chief Ramesh Chennithala demanded that the chairperson justice Sreedevi should first apologise to the Christian community and then step down as chairperson of the commission.
