Muslim League MP Abdul Wahab Encroached 13 Acres of Government land

KOZHIKODE: The issue of illegal possession of government land by IUML leader P V Abdul Wahab MP is hotting up with Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha seeking the intervention of the President, the Vice President and Opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

The BJYM has also decided to take out a march to the controversial land on Monday. In a letter to the President, BJYM state president K Surendran said that Wahab had “misused his power, position and high political influence,” to get and retain the land.

The land was acquired by the government to set up the West India Steel Company. As per the agreement, the land should not be transferred to anyone without prior sanction from the government.

Now it is confirmed that the steel company, which is defunct now, has transferred the land to Wahab to set up Indus Motors, a car showroom.

The District Collector has issued a notice to the company authorities as a first step of taking the land back. But the BJP and the BJYM have found a potential issue to corner the CPM and the IUML at one go.

The CPM and its feeder organisations like the DYFI have not yet reacted to the developments. Minister for Industries Elamaram Kareem has said that he is not aware of the issue.

The intervention of the BJYM will land the DYFI in a piquant situation. The Left youth organisation earlier had taken an aggressive posture on land grabbing issue and even took out march to a car showroom owned by KTC alleging that it was situated in encroached land.
 

BJYM march to Wahab’s car showroom turns violent

A protest march held by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha to the Indus Motors car showroom owned by Rajya Sabha member PV Abdul Wahab in Cheruvannur near here on Monday ended in violence with the police resorting to lathi-charge and grenade-lobbing. A Yuva Morcha worker with injury caused by a grenade projectile had been admitted to hospital.

Yuva Morcha State president K Surendran alleged that the police attacked the marchers without any provocation. He said the action on the Morcha workers was pre-planned.

The march, led by Surendran was organised, after allegations came up that the establishment of Wahab had been possessing illegally 13 acres of Government land. The tension during the march arose after the police blocked the marchers on the way.

When blocked by the police, the marchers barged into the compound of the showroom and hoisted the organisation’s flag there. Enraged by this, the police lobbed grenade at the protesters. Reports said that the police lobbed grenades two times. A Morcha worker, injured in the leg, was admitted to hospital.

The incident that occurred around 12.00 noon caused tension in the area which prevailed for almost an hour. Following the police attack on them, the Morcha activists sat in protest on the road. The march was inaugurated by State BJP vice-president V Muraleedharan.

Morcha leader Surendran said after the incident that the police had descended on the workers without any provocation. He claimed that the march was peaceful and the police was determined to make it otherwise. There was a deliberate and planned attempt from the part of the police to sabotage the peaceful march, he alleged.

Surendran said that the organisation had informed all the relevant authorities about the plan to take out a demonstration towards the car showroom owned by the Muslim League’s Rajya Sabha member. But the police had posted themselves in large numbers with a well-designed plan and with all preparations to counter the protest, he alleged, adding that the organisation would go ahead with intensified protests against the land encroachment by the MP and the atrocities of the police.
