Gulf Malayalee Barons (GMBs) and Business of SOLIDARITY

Chains of Supermarkets and Hypermarkets closing down smaller and friendly grocery shops in the neighborhood are a growing phenomenon in India today. It has come to Kerala also. At the forefront of this inevitable business tsunami are Reliance Fresh, Spencers etc. Marxists & Minorities are already up in arms against this so-called “business imperialism of the Western forces”.  It is true that thousands of small businessmen are affected but are the forces fighting for them sincere? Definitely not.

When Moser Baer came in to Kerala to displace all the Video Lending Libraries, it was the Vyapari-Vyvasayi Ekopanan Samiti (a pre-dominantly Minority majority association) that led the agitation. Several bandhs and hartals took place. Some of the really affected shop-owners (mainly from Hindu community) committed suicide also in the frenzy built up by the Samiti. All of a sudden everything died off. Nobody talks about it now. The latest news is that Samiti President has taken Moser Baer’s franchise for Kerala!!!

A similar situation is very much evident in the case of Supermarkets too. At the forefront of agitation against Reliance and Spencers is a suspicious and potentially dangerous organization like SOLIDARITY. They are very vociferous and determined to close down Reliance shops. But when the EMKE group anno unced their massive Hypermarket project in Cochin , SOLIDARITY is dead silent. EMKE group is owned by Yousef Ali and these are the very same Alis who are financing organizations like SOLIDARITY. If the worst are to be believed, these Gulf Malayalee Barons (GMBs) are using the organizations like SOLIDARITY to clean up the arena for their own consolidation.

Both the print and visual media are completely silent on this for obvious reasons. We have now come to a stage that money for any venture in Kerala will have to come from the Gulf. And that makes everyone silent when it comes to any discussion about the slow and steady take over of Kerala’s Economy and Real Estate by the GMBs. Malabar coast is already at the mercy of Gulf money and days are not far off when fate of Kerala and Malayalees will be decided at Riyadh , Jeddah, Dubai and Doha .  It is high time some one spoke out against the impending Arab imperialism, led by our own people in the Gulf, that will eventually ruin Kerala.
