Sainik school entrance exams on January 4

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Applications have been invited from boys for admissions to Class VI and IX (June 2009) at the Sainik School, Kazhakootam. The entrance examinations will be held on January 4, 2009 and examination centres will be at Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kazhakootam Sainik School and Kavaratti in Lakshadweep, subject to sufficient number of candidates.

 Those who were not born before July 2, 1998, and not after July 1, 1999, can apply for admissions to Class VI and those not born before July 2, 1995, and not after July 1, 1996, and studying in Class VIII or IX can apply for admissions to Class IX.   The curriculum is 10+2 system of the CBSE (New Delhi), English medium.

 The total number of vacancies is approximately 80 for Class VI and approximately 15 for Class IX. 67 percent of the seats are reserved for boys from Kerala and the remaining seats are open to boys from other States and Union Territories. The school does not patronise any coaching institutes/agencies and the admissions will be made strictly in accordance with the merit achieved in the entrance examination and medical fitness of the candidates.

  The category-wise reservation for seats are 25 percent for sons of defence and ex-defence personnel, 15 percent for SC and 7.5 percent for ST. Various types of scholarships are given by the Central/State Governments depending upon the parents’ monthly income. Details are available in the prospectus.

 The prospectus, application form and old question papers can be obtained from the Principal, Sainik School, Kazhakootam, Sainik School P.O., Thiruvananthapuram-695585, on sending a crossed Demand Draft payable at Thiruvananthapuram, drawn in favour of ‘Principal, Sainik School Kazhakootam’ or on cash payment as per the following details: By registered post – Rs 375 (DD only) and by-hand- Rs 325 (cash or DD).  For SC/ST candidates, the fee is Rs 275 (DD only) by registered post and Rs 225 for by-hand payment (by cash or DD).

 Prospectus along with application form and model question papers can be downloaded from the school website www.sainikschooltvm.org.  In such cases, filled applications have to be submitted to the office along with the registration fees of Rs 325 (for general and Defence) and Rs 225 (for SC/ST).

 Address with telephone number, category and the class applied for, indicating date of birth, should be clearly mentioned in the request letter. The prospectus along with application form will be sent by registered post. Request for application form without DD and application forms without required documentation will be rejected.  The last date for receipt of applications is December 10.
