Amidst allegations that Islamist organisation NDF (National Development Front) was involved in terror-related operations, the police on Friday arrested nine activists of the outfit for conducting physical training from Valanchery in the district.

The police said that the group had conducted the training at a shed constructed temporarily for the purpose in a plot of land owned by one Yusuf at Moodal near Valanchery.

The police had arrested the nine activists on Friday morning after they received information that some people were holding a physical training camp at Moodal. They also said that strict surveillance was on in many areas in the Malabar region, especially in Kannur and Malappuram districts, for those who were conducting such camps.

The Home Department had sometime back issued strict warnings against conducting physical training by any organisation. The police, however, refused to confirm whether the activists or the training camp had any connections with the terror operations in the State.
