Abhaya case: Former ASI Augustine commits suicide

KOTTAYAM:
Former Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) V V Augustine, one of the members
of the first investigating team of Sister Abhaya murder case, committed
suicide by consuming poison.

The CBI had recently questioned Augustine, who was the ASI of Kottayam
West Police Station. His body was found at his residence in Palachira,
Chingavanam.

He was the ASI of the West Station when Abhaya was murdered. He was also
the person who submitted the First Information Report on Sister Abhaya
murder case. Later having found out irregularity in his report, the CBI
had decided to subject him to narco-analysis test. But Augustine evaded
the test by informing that he was a heart patient.

It was understood that the CBI would arrest him today or tomorrow.
