THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One after the other controversies seem to be haunting Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Thanks to his son Binish Kodiyeri.

A day after the alleged nexus of Binish with Total 4 U accused R.

Sabarinath re-surfaced, two businessmen, including an Egypt-born UK citizen, who were arrested at the Thiruvananthapuram airport for beating up security personnel, were alleged to have links with Binish.

Intelligence Bureau officials at the airport have started an inquiry into the incident which assumes serious security concerns owing to the involvement of a foreign national.

Reghu, 45, of Sooranad, and Egypt-born UK citizen Ahamed Mohamed, 30, who arrived at the airport from Sharjah at 3.45 a.m. on Saturday had allegedly beaten CISF officials following a dispute over violating queue. Following this, the airport security personnel and passengers had beaten the two, during which they had allegedly claimed that they were Binish Kodiyeri’s friends.

Reghu, alias Madathil Reghu, is learnt to be running various business concerns including hotels and transport services in Kollam as well as in Gulf, sources said.

The Valiyathura police took the two into custody on the basis of a complaint given by the CISF authorities.

Police sources said that the complaint given by CISF officials only mentioned that the two had created a brawl in the airport in an intoxicated state, which only warrants a bailable offence.

There are also unconfirmed reports that a Minister’s son had intercepted the police jeep in which the two were being taken for medical examination and they were later taken in a posh car.

It was also alleged that a state car which was parked near the arrival terminal of the airport at the time of the arrival of the two, had left the place immediately after the incident.

A business person whose name figured in the Merchiston land deal and an actor who was allegedly involved in a brawl with a pistol in a leading club in the city were said to have tried to sort out the issue.
