KOLLAM: The
decision of the Union Government to make madrasa education equivalent
to the CBSE has invited the wrath of the rationalists. In a statement
issued here on Tuesday, Kerala Yukthivadi Sanghom district president
N.Janardhanan said that the decision of the Union Human Resources
Ministry was a challenge to the Indian secularism and the public
education system. The Sanghom will organise dharnas in all the district
centres on Thursday in protest against the decision. In Kollam, the
dharna will be held in front of the Head Post Office.

 Religious
aspects are being taught at the madrasas and it is not the duty of the
Government to teach religion, Janardhanan said. If the Government
encourages madrasa education by giving recognition to it, in future the
Sunday schools may also demand the same status, he said. They also
flayed the stand of the secularist political parties on the issue, as
they did not oppose the decision fearing the vote bank.
