CPM has surrendered itself to Islamists: BJP

Krishnadas on Friday alleged that the CPI(M), which kept on boasting
about its secular credentials, had surrendered itself to the Islamic
fundamentalists in Kerala.

Talking to newsmen here, he said
the disputes between the CPI(M) and CPI over the Ponnani Lok Sabha seat
were the result of this CPI(M) surrender.

Referring to the
reported determination of the CPI(M) not to give the Ponnani seat to
the CPI which had been contesting it for the LDF for several elections
in the past, Krishnadas said that this was proof of the preparedness of
the Marxist party to go to any extent to ensure the support of
religious fundamentalists.

He alleged that the CPI(M) and the
Islamism-oriented political party PDP, led by Abdul Nasser Madani, had
been trying to impose their decision on the CPI, indicating that it the
two parties had wanted the CPI to agree to the candidature of Hussein
Randathani, a college principal known for his loyalty to conservative
Sunni leader Kanthapuram AP Aboobakcer Musliyar, who had threatened to
launch an agitation if any controls were imposed on polygamy.

“What
the CPI(M) did was to say that the Ponnani seat would be contested by
the CPI while the Marxists and the PDP decided the candidate,” he said.
Krishnadas warned that the CPI(M) policy of appeasing the Islamic
fundamentalists for winning votes would have serious repercussions in
Kerala.

At the same time, the BJP on Friday announced the names
of five candidates for the LOk Sabha polls in the State in addition to
the ten announced earlier.

were Vaykkal Madhu (Kollam), B Radhkrishna Menon (Pathanamthitta),
Sreenagari Rajan (Idukki), M Bindu (Alathur) and C Vasudevan Master
(Wayanad). The party leadership also said that the candidate for
Thiruvananthapuram would be announced in three days.

Responding
to the problems between the CPI(M) and the CPI in the ruling LDF,
Opposition leader Oommen Chandy said in Delhi that the Left front was a
sinking ship.

He said the CPI(M) was trying to impose its
hegemony on the constituent parties of the LDF. He added that the
Congress would not remain mute spectators to such developments.
Appropriate decisions would be taken as per the situation arose, he
added.

Asked about the delay in finalizing the Congress
candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Chandy said there were no disputes
in the Congress on this. “The process of fixing candidates in out party
is in the final stages. Everything will be done in time,” he said.

Referring
to the Press conference by CPI State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan in
which he said the LDF was on the verge of a split, State Congress
president Ramesh Chennithala said the present developments had been
expediting the collapse of the LDF Government. He said the LDF in
Kerala was in a serious crisis and the Congress was monitoring the
situation closely.

KR Gowriamma, former communist firebrand and
general secretary of Jandhipathya Samrakshana Samithi, said the CPI(M)
was violating coalition decency by taking away seats from the
constituent parties.
