Karunagappally in number one position for counterfeit currency circulation

KOLLAM : Karunagappally in Kollam district has been in number one position for many things. During last Onam season, the Beverages Corporation had maximum sale of liquor in its outlet at Karunagappally. In real estate business Karunagappally reigns on top. A survey report published by the government identified that land price at Karunagappally is the highest. An old Cinema house named Chitranjali recently changed hands for over 3 crores and was renamed as Khan’s Cinema. Beating any place in Kerala, Karunagappally has the largest number of pre-owned two wheeler dealers. Undoubtedly all these could happen only when large amount of counterfeit currency is in circulation.

Reports have now come out that Karunagappally has now turned out to be the local headquarters for fake currency circulation and hawala deals. Mafia gangs from other states are actively involved in large scale circulation of 1000 and 500 rupees counterfeit notes. From Karunagappally they are stage managing the circulation at nearby places like Ernakulam, Kayankulam, Kotayam and Adoor. The circulation is being carried out through the real estate dealers and private finance institutions. The currency flows in from abroad as well as the districts of Malappuram, Trichur and Kozhikkode through gagsters. Lakhs of rupees transactions are taking place every day through a few small shops at Oachira, Manappally, Vavvakkavu, Vallikkavu, Chittumoola, Karunagappally town, Mynagappally, Thevalakkara, Chavara bus stand and Sankaramangalam. Interestingly, all these are happening with the knowledge of concerned authorities and the police in particular.
