Hundreds paid tribute to Poonjaar Kerala Varma Raja

Kottayam: Hundreds paid tribute to P Kerala Varma Raja (89), the Valiya Raja of Poonjaar Kovilakam who passed away on Monday. He was one of the chief architects of Paliyam Proclamation which emerged crucial in rocking the caste system in the state.

Unlike many other Royal family members Raja, continued his efforts to empower Hindus in the state by closely associating with Hindu organisations. He proved himself a good organiser in various fields, including sports, and established himself as a good orator. He also strived to popularise the temple rituals and customs, eventually associating himself with the Hindu Munnani and the Sangh Pariwar.

Kerala Varma Raja held positions as Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi president, BJP National executive member, Convenor of Acharya Sadassu, Thantra Vidya Peedom Secretary and Kerala Hotel Association president.

By the demise of Raja, I lost a elder brother, Told RSS Pranth Sanghachalak P E B Menon. BJP President V Muraleedharan, Spokesperson George Kurian, RSS Kshetriya Karyavahak A R Mohanan, Pranth Sahakarya Vahak Adv. N Sankar Ram, Boudhik Pramukh K B Sreekumar, Prantheeya Saha Sambarka Pramukh K Mohanan, Janmabhumi Managing Director, Kummanam Rajasekharan, Balagokulam State Executive members Prof C N Purushothaman, K N Sajikumar, K S Sasidharan, V S Madhusoodanan, BJP state Committee member B Radhakrishna Menon, District President Ettumanoor Radhakrishnan, State Campaign Committee chairman Adv. N K Narayanan Nampoothiri were among the few who joined hundreds to pay last respect to this veteran.
