RSS backs Narendra Modi as prime ministerial candidate

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat Wednesday backed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as a candidate for the prime minister's post and said that the country should have a PM who propounded Hindutva.

"To keep alive the Hindutva ideology, the Hindu 'samaaj' (society) should come together. And the country should have a prime minister who believes in that ideology or propounds that view," Bhagwat told reporters here.

Bhagwat's comments came a day after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hit out at Narendra Modi without naming him and said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, should announce a secular prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Nitish Kumar Tuesday made it clear that Modi is unacceptable as an NDA candidate for prime ministership.

"Will Nitish decide what sort of person makes a good PM?" Bhagwat questioned.

He also slammed Nitish Kumar and said that he is scared to call himself a Hindu.

The Nitish-Modi rivalry has been on a high for the past few days. Modi took a dig at politicians from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar for what the Gujarat chief minister called "resort to caste-based politics".

Nitish Kumar then said that Modi, who has been a constant irritant in the JD(U)-BJP coalition ties in Bihar, should mind his own business instead of making comments on others.

Modi is the right man for the job of PM at this juncture of Indian history when the country & their politics are at cross roads. Gone are the days when you could walk over Hindu sentiments & expect support from right thinking Hindus. Hindus know they have been marginalized in Indian politics with a non-elected mafia Queen & a mute & deaf Sardar ruling over them with scams & corruption all around & neck deep. Is it not ironic that under the present bloody secular rule anti-national terrorists & Jihadists are extolled & put on a pedestal & real lovers of Hindustan & their ethos like Annaji, Swami Ramdev are decried from roof tops as extremists. You know something; we just don’t care & we are proud to be “extremists” to demand equal rights in OUR motherland. You think I will feel confused & guilty if you call me RSS extremist. Not at all. I feel proud just like the Islamist terrorists. Yes, Modi is our Hero & will remain so. Your divide & conquer strategy will not work for ever you agents of foreign powers & terrorists. Kashmiri Pundits are forgotten & Afzal Guru, Kasab & Madani are national heroes to be worshipped & served with biriyani in first class jails. Down with corrupt Congress, Mullah Mulayam , Begum Mamta & Nitish of JDU. We will never allow another Mughal or Angrezi rule again in Hindustan.
Suresh 21/06/2012 12:48:11	Think about Next election Unfortunately every day so many issues coming against BJP. I think some psychological training is required for the leaders of BJP. Still no one knows why BJP took corrupted Babu Singh Kushwaha from BSP at UP. That leads to decrease seats at UP for last election. Presently BJP need one strong president. First every body should understand BJP having only 20 to 25 % of voting share only in India. BJP cannot go alone in the next election. So there is a need to develop NDA stronger. BJP should aim to get above 275 seats alone. Minorities are fed with this present Congress government. Don’t give any chance to consolidation of minority votes against BJP. Modiji is great leader and luck of India. As per my view let Modiji to lead BJP for next 2 years as party President. BJP should aim to get more seats from UP, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal etc. And BJP strong hold areas party should get more than 75% of seats. As per my view Sushama Swaraj or Arun Jaitly are very good candidate to project as Prime Minister for the next general election. Each candidate is very much important in Indian type election. So decide the candidate much earlier and let them to work with the constituency. Project their qualities and what they done to the public. At the same time don’t give any chance to NDA ally’s to blame any of the BJP leaders in public. BJP has to reply strongly against that.
Venugopal Kaikulath 21/06/2012 04:41:47	Hindutva and not appeacement The headline is misleading. All the Sarsanghchalak said was the Prime Minister should be a person who propounds Hindutva. It is natural for Sangha to take this view because Hindutva means the vision of inclusiveness and not what secularism has come to mean - appeasement of Muslims.
p k mohandas 21/06/2012 03:19:42	secular prime minister If at all mr nitish kumar had any problem in naming the future prime minister of bharath he should have raised it in the NDA CO-ORDINATION COMMITTEE MEETING INSTEAD OF GOING PUBLIC. He did not find any problem as a union minister while modi was very well there as cm of gujarath. For the reason best known to mr. nitish, now he tries to find out some lame excuse to come out of NDA TO BECOME REGIONAL SATRAP TO earn some bargaining power in future. shame on pseduo secularism which is detrimental in the way of progress of our country.
GSK Menon 21/06/2012 02:21:23	RSS backs Narendra Modi I felt angry after hearing TV report that BJP is going to back Sangma. Sangma is an unprincipled man, changing parties. Now hi is in one party and his daughter in NCP. He keeps playing the Christian card when it suits him and otherwise the tribal card. He is a clever oppurtunist. Sad that the BJP could not find a single worthwhile Hindu. They could have supported Pranab and that would have added to the party's stature. A most foolish decision.

BJP can easily take the damage if Nitish exits NDA. Atleast Shiv-sena and Akalidal will not desert NDA because of projecting Modiji as PM. The biggest head-ache for BJP to convince people that riots are not instigated by Modiji.
